Mr Francisco Donis Ortiz
(1969 January)
Honourable Sir:
Perhaps you may consider it incorrect for us to address you without previous friendly relations, or without an introduction by an intermediary preceding it, according to the social rules customary in your beautiful country.
But the circumstances surrounding our request make it difficult to observe and settle all protocol.
Through a recent monographic article included in a well-known Spanish publication, which was preceded by accounts of the event that leads us to communicate with you, we observe that you possess more or less extensive information about our existence on this planet.
We believe we are not mistaken if we infer that such data have been given to you by the members of a Madrid micro-social network with which, in months now past, we maintained friendly contacts.
This saves us having to tire you with an account of our identity that would require many typewritten pages.
We do not know what credit you may give to our testimonies. And of course we even invite you to be hypercritical in your judgements about them, since naturally you have not been able to obtain definitive arguments and proofs supporting this thesis of our existence among you.
In short, our request can be set apart, regardless of whether our story is accepted or rejected by you as lacking definitive proof.
Our request will surely not be judged by you as impossible to fulfil in favour of men whose personality you do not know and who, logically, might be (seen by an outsider) mere impostors, simple paranoid mythomaniacs or vulgar individuals with the harmless intention of playing a joke on their friends.
But you will agree with us that, even accepting these last interpretations, the effort needed to satisfy our wish is so minimal that you cannot lose too much by satisfying it.
We therefore earnestly beg you to help us. We wish to demand nothing more of you, so we will proceed to make this request, first clarifying certain points.
In your account of the contacts you maintained with the visitor Atienza, You state that you continue to maintain relations of ideographic communication of a telepathic nature with him.
We ask you, among the questions you put to him, simply to ask him whether he would be willing to answer, for us (since so far the possibility of initiating a contact with that civilization has not been favourable to us), a question formulated by means of a binary code.
Simply -WE REPEAT- to know whether he would be willing to give that answer.
You could communicate to us the reply the said Mr Atienza gives you through one of your articles or, otherwise, we would suggest another means for it to reach us.
We have powerful reasons at present for trying to avoid all communication through normal telephone cable with your brothers of Earth.
